1st Thessaloniki Djangofest-Gypsy Jazz festival!!

Friday 25th May 2012 in Block 33 get ready for the ultimate swing experience!

The Djangofest, the first and only festival that showcases the authentic sound of swing inspired by Django Reinhardt and jazz manouche, for the first time in Thessaloniki! After 2 successful years in Athens, this year DJANGOFEST Gypsy Jazz festival starts from the north and meets the audience with new breath  and entries from all over Greece!

On Friday 25/5 in Block 33, will gather all the forces of gypsy jazz for a whole day full of music and dance:

The Antonis Priftis Quartet, Gadjo Dilo and Diminuita from Athens, and from Thessaloniki Swing ’till you Drop and Swingtime Quartet, who as host band invites friends musicians on stage for a lively jam!

The dj set of the evening belongs to the Jitterbugs!

Furthermore, from the afternoon Lindy Hop Greece undertake the dance workshop free  to all attendees of the fest! Also report contest-themed “DJANGOFEST Athens”, guitar presentation from and projection of the documentary short “back in the swing of things” of D.Mikelli will frame the event that brings together the fun and energy of the community of gypsy jazz.

SWING TILL YOU DROP (Thessaloniki)

The younger band will open the  first festival in Thessaloniki! The Swing Till You Drop ..! formed only in the October 2011 by Christos Kosidi (violin) and John Vakaloudi (guitar) and have already conquered their city with multiple appearances.




Theband combines the gypsy jazz sound with elements of be bop, modern jazz, nujazz, etc. Interestingly, solid playing jazz swing of the Cretan lyre, but also the simultaneous contrapuntal improvisations guitar and lyre.

The band brings the Gadjo Dilo manouche gipsy swing music tradition, through unique performances of legendary guitar tracks of Django Reinhardt. Through improvisations and vertiginous dreamy soundscapes are Gadjo Dilo us to the magic and poetry of the unique gypsy jazz tradition.

Diminuita, starting from 2007, are a part of the orchestral gypsy swing scene, alluding to the pioneers of the Hot Club, playing their own versions of Reinhatdt’s and Grappelli’s tunes, as well as of other composers’ of that era.

Their first cd “a-rhythmology” released on May 2011.

They have performed In many venues and festivals al over Greece and Europe.

Clear, natural sound from acoustic instruments and freedom of musical expression in a swing atmosphere, references to bebop style, imaginative melodies and rhythmic maneuvers.

The band was created in 2007 and has been active on all this time with appearances in various music halls and festivals. The most popular gypsy jazz band in Thessaloniki!

LINDY HOP GREECE (workshop, dance act)

In October 2006 the Lindy Hop came to Greece, and brought the first Lindy Hop Greece!

With courses, seminars, swing parties, participated in art festivals, performances and shows in various cities of Greece, participated in international festivals and workshop abroad, as well as collaborations with bands like Caravan Palace, Parov Stelar Band, Rhythm Junkies, Mr. a and local bands, swing brings the atmosphere in Greece!

They couldn’t be missing Djangofest!


Group artistic expression with vintage and retro influences.

Through the retro look of “Jitterbugs” theater, literature, cinema and meet Design Music and Dance, to unique events, happenings, Dance Workshops and Performances. A nostalgic journey into the culture of the early ’30s up to late 50s, with a view to promoting the public.

The “Jitterbugs” consists of: Elias Kalpaki Mikelli Danae and Maria Pavlidou.

They will take over the fest’s dj set. It will also be broadcast the documentary short Danae Mikelli titled “Back in the swing of things”
